Biography

Dr. Chan is a fellowship-trained and board-certified dermatopathologist with a background in clinical dermatology, who strives to provide high quality, precise dermatopathology services. She is an adjunct professor of dermatopathology at Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California and participates in weekly dermatopathology conferences at Cottage Hospital. She is the recipient of a teaching award for her work teaching dermatopathology to residents in the USC dermatology department.

Dr. Chan has also performed extensive laboratory research and published on the science of the skin barrier, electron microscopy, and congenital skin diseases. She has authored numerous articles in peer-reviewed medical journals, book chapters in dermatology and has presented her research at both national and regional meetings, receiving several awards for her work. Her most recent work on regressed melanoma is included in the fourth edition of the World Health Organization Classification of Skin Tumours.

In addition to her work as a dermatopathologist, Dr. Chan is also a practicing, board-certified dermatologist. Her clinical experience and knowledge underpin Dr. Chan's ability to provide accurate and practical pathology reports aimed at facilitating the management of patients' dermatologic conditions. She is always accessible to other clinicians for consultations on difficult cases, as well as discussions synthesizing pathologic and clinical findings or questions regarding individual treatment plans.

Dr. Chan interests in dermatopathology and complex medical dermatology, including skin cancer, autoimmune disorders, supportive oncodermatology, skin of color and infectious diseases, Dr. Chan has a strong interest in global health. Her work has taken her on multiple occasions to Botswana, Haiti, and Bolivia. Outside of medicine, she enjoys photographing wildlife while on safari, scuba diving, stand up paddle-boarding, and taking bike rides around beautiful Santa Barbara.
