Biography
Dr. Monica Phillips was appointed Laboratory Medical Director of PDL as of January 2022.
Dr. Phillips is board-certified in anatomic & clinical pathology, and cytopathology and joined Cottage Health in 2014. She has served as a CLIA laboratory medical director and a College of American Pathologists (CAP) inspector for other regional and national laboratories and has acted as PDL’s cytopathology department director and clinical consultant for Pap and Women’s Health services. She is now the laboratory medical director for Santa Barbara, Goleta, and Santa Ynez Valley Cottage Hospitals, is vice chair of the department of pathology at SBCH, and a member of the SYVCH medical executive committee.
Since her arrival at Cottage Health, she has been the pathology representative for the Surgical Cancer Conference, and a participant in the breast cancer and gynecologic oncology multidisciplinary tumor boards. She is a member of the Santa Barbara Breast Care Alliance, Central Coast Medical Association, and serves as a member of the California CAP house of delegates. Dr. Phillips is also an annual guest speaker at the San Marcos High School Health Academy.
Dr. Phillips is a military wife - her spouse now serves as a naval aviator reservist stationed at Port Hueneme Naval Base in Ventura County, and he is also a Delta Airlines pilot. She is a life-long cinephile, actor, and comedian, and is a member of the SAG-AFTRA labor union.
